Introducing the Ronald Williams Library at CCICS
The Ronald Williams Library at the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies includes significant holdings in the social sciences and the humanities, particularly as they document, relate, and present the African and African-American experience. Its collection areas include selected monographs on reserve, reference, and, current plus retroactive periodical literature.
Our holdings are cited within the Northeastern Illinois University catalog as well as the Illinois I-Share catalog and the OCLC World Catalog known as World Cat. We also provide full access to the database collections online as subscribed to and selected by the professional staff of the Ronald Williams Library.
The Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies is located at 700 East Oakwood Boulevard in Chicago. It was established as "the Center for Inner City Studies in 1966 as an outgrowth of Northeastern Illinois University for its concern and commitment to Chicago's inner city communities. Since its inception, CICS has focused on the analysis of institutions, systems and people with a direct impact on the quality of life in the inner cities of the United States and elsewhere in the world. The curricular thrust of the undergraduate and graduate programs here is to prepare those who work and/or live in the inner city to understand and act upon the expressed interests of residents of the inner city and to participate fully in the richness of African and African American cultures."
